In 2017 election of Melung Rural Municipality (Dolakha district), candidate Nar Bahadur Shrestha of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 4,475 (50.09%) votes out of total votes of 8,934 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Varma Lama of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 4,386 (32.71%) of votes. The rest of 3 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 73 (0.41) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Kalpana Bhandari of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 4,497 (56.72%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Krishna Bahadur Karki of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 3,232 (26.01%) of votes and came in second position. Other 3 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 200 (1.26) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 121 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 77 (63.64%) males and 44 (36.36%) females. Moreover, there were total 31 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 7 wards. Same as, total 41 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 20 females and 19 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
