In 2017 election of Melamchi Municipality (Sindhupalchok district), candidate Dambar Bahadur Aryal of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 8,678 (35.52%) votes out of total votes of 24,431 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Aita Man Tamang of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 7,033 (21.24%) of votes. The rest of 6 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 8,720 (17.85) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Bhagwati Nepal of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 9,117 (38.14%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Sabita Gurung of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 6,739 (20.41%) of votes and came in second position. Other 3 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 8,049 (16.84) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 277 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 171 (61.73%) males and 106 (38.27%) females. Moreover, there were total 60 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 13 wards. Same as, total 104 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 52 females and 48 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
