In 2017 election of Marchawari Rural Municipality (Rupandehi district), candidate Keshav Nanda Baniya of Snghiy Samajbadi Form Nepal (SanSFN) secured 3,405 (32.68%) votes out of total votes of 10,420 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Gyan Prakash Mishra of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 2,166 (15.67%) of votes. The rest of 10 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 4,849 (23.27) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Sunita Kalwar of Snghiy Samajbadi Form Nepal (SanSFN) secured 2,054 (23.26%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Shreekanti Barai of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 1,839 (16.90%) of votes and came in second position. Other 9 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 4,936 (27.95) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 229 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 156 (68.12%) males and 73 (31.88%) females. Moreover, there were total 54 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 7 wards. Same as, total 84 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 36 females and 32 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
