In 2017 election of Manthali Municipality (Ramechhap district), candidate Ramesh Kumar Basnet of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 6,529 (36.28%) votes out of total votes of 17,996 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Binod Kumar Karki of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 5,379 (21.93%) of votes. The rest of 3 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 6,088 (16.91) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Maya Kumari Karki of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 6,507 (36.60%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Ganga Kumari Adhikari (devkota) of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 5,362 (22.08%) of votes and came in second position. Other 3 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 5,908 (16.62) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 278 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 168 (60.43%) males and 110 (39.57%) females. Moreover, there were total 60 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 14 wards. Same as, total 106 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 53 females and 49 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
