Mangalsen is a Municipality, which is located in Achham district, Sudurpashchim Province of Nepal. Mangalsen has total 14 wards, which are scattered across 220 square kilometers of geographical area. According to 2011 Census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Mangalsen Municipality had total population of 32,331.
Wardwise Population and Households
As per 2011 population census, Mangalsen Municipality had total 32,507 population with 14,876 males and 17,631 females. Out of total wards, ward number 5 had the largest population 4,600, while ward number 2 had least number of population with 4,600.
With respect to number of households, Mangalsen Municipality had total 6,604 households. The ward number 5 had most households with total 1,089, while ward number 2 had least number of households with total 125 number of households.
As illustrated in the chart, the ratio of male to female population was 0.84, which indicates that Mangalsen Municipality had 16 percent lower males as compared to the females. Same as, the population to household ratio was 4.92, which means that in average 4.92 family members lived in each household.

In terms of age, the largest population in Mangalsen Municipality were between 5 and 9 years of age with total 4,881. However, gender wise largest population age group differs from the total population, such as largest male population falls between 5 and 9 with total 2,469 while female population falls between 10 and 14 with total 2,486 population. The least populated age group was above 75 with total 440 population, which consistes of 217 males and 223 females. There were 50.86 % (16,445 ) of independent population, the working age people between ages of 15 and 64 years. The dependent children, ages below 15 years, were 43.97 % with total number of 14,215. The dependent elderly population, aged 65 and above were 5.71 % with total number of 1,847. As such, total dependent population including children and elderly people were 49.68 with total number of 16,062
There were 8,032 women of child-bearing age-group of 15 to 49 years. Same as, the todlers or children of 4 years or below were 4,466. Literacy, Education Levels & Schooling
There were only 16,138 people fully literate in Mangalsen Municipality as of 2011 who were able to both read and write, while 736 people were able to read but not write. In percentage while compared to genderwise population, there were inf percent of male were literate, while the percentage of female literacy was inf only.The literacy ratio between male and female population was nan.
Out of total 10,332 population between the age of 5 and 25 as of 2011 in Mangalsen Municipality, total 5,221 males and 5,111 females were attending the school. Same as, out of total 4,398 population of the same age group who were not attending the school, total 1,536 male and 2,862 female were not attending teh school. The ratio of male and female who were going to school was 1.02 while the ratio for those who were not attending the school was 0.54.The CBS census also states that 114 males and 212 females did not state whether they were attending school or not.

According to Nepal Government records as of 2017, there were total 13,428 in Mangalsen Municipality with 6,542 (48.72%) of males and 6,886 (51.28%) females. There were total 53 schools. In average, 253 students were studying in each school.

Population by Language Spoken
Mostly spoken language in Mangalsen is Nepali, which is spoken by 31,696 people. The Mangalsen has people who speak other languages, such as Achhami, Maithili, Tharu, Hindi, Doteli, Tamang, Magar, etc.

According to 2011 census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Mangalsen Municipality was inhabitted by mostly the people of Chhetri caste with total population of 15,534. There were as little as Gurung caste with population of as little as 12 in total. People of several other castes who live in Mangalsen are Dalit Others, Brahmin - Hill, Kami, Damai/Dholi, Thakuri, Badi, Sanyasi/Dashnami, Sarki, Tamang, Lohar, Bangali, Muslim, Tharu, Magar, Terai Others, Kurmi, Teli, Gurung, etc. Only the population of castes with above 1,000 population are illustrated in the table.

Out of total 6604 households in Mangalsen Municipality, there were 6,237 houses that were founded on mud bonded while 261 houses were cement bonded. Same as, 4 households were reported of being founded on RCC piller, 56houses were founded on wood.
With respect to wall of the houses, 6,195 houses were mud bonded, 282 houses were cement bonded, 57 houses were wood planks bonded, 18 houses were bamboo bonded and 0 houses had unbaked bricks on their outer walls.Rest of the houses were reported of having other types of outer wall, while some of them reported nothing of having the outer wall bonding.
There were several types of house roofs reported. Total 1,873 houses were reported of having thatch roofs while 1,114 houses had galvanized roofs. Similarly, 3,417 houses had roof of tile, 168 houses had RCC roofs, 0 houses had roof of woods while 0 houses were reported having roof of mud. out of 6,604 households in Mangalsen Municipality, 2,658 houses reported of having no any facility in their household while 3,718 households reported of using at least one facility. Economic Census
According to 2018 Economic Census, there are total 672 establishments in Mangalsen Municipality that are involved in various economic activities. In those establishments, total 2,350 persons are engaged for the economic activities, as a self-employed or an employee, with total male engagement of 1,568 and female engagement of 782 persons.In every business, there were an average of 3.50 people engaged with average males are 2.33 and females are 1.16. The ratio of male to female engagement in the establishments are 2.01, which means as many as 2.01 males are enagement in the economic activities per female.
Similarly, the engagement of males were 66.72 percent while the females are 33.28 percent.
