In 2017 election of Malangwa Municipality (Sarlahi district), candidate Nirsat Shah of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,244 (29.90%) votes out of total votes of 14,195 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Nagendra Prasad Yadav of Independent (Ind) who secured 3,581 (19.42%) of votes. The rest of 14 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 6,370 (22.44) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Shabnam Called As Shanti of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 3,782 (31.15%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Shama Ara of Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RasJPN) secured 3,446 (21.64%) of votes and came in second position. Other 11 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 4,915 (20.24) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 342 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 236 (69.01%) males and 106 (30.99%) females. Moreover, there were total 93 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 12 wards. Same as, total 124 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 57 females and 39 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
