Mahalaxmi is a Municipality, which is located in Dhankuta district, Province No. 1 of Nepal. Mahalaxmi has total 9 wards, which are scattered across 129 square kilometers of geographical area. According to 2011 Census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Mahalaxmi Municipality had total population of 24,801.
Wardwise Population and Households
As per 2011 population census, Mahalaxmi Municipality had total 24,800 population with 11,337 males and 13,463 females. Out of total wards, ward number 4 had the largest population 3,717, while ward number 3 had least number of population with 3,717.
With respect to number of households, Mahalaxmi Municipality had total 5,482 households. The ward number 4 had most households with total 831, while ward number 3 had least number of households with total 450 number of households.

Literacy, Education Levels & Schooling
There were only 16,428 people fully literate in Mahalaxmi Municipality as of 2011 who were able to both read and write, while 275 people were able to read but not write. In percentage while compared to genderwise population, there were inf percent of male were literate, while the percentage of female literacy was inf only.The literacy ratio between male and female population was nan.
Out of total 7,423 population between the age of 5 and 25 as of 2011 in Mahalaxmi Municipality, total 3,597 males and 3,826 females were attending the school. Same as, out of total 2,406 population of the same age group who were not attending the school, total 924 male and 1,482 female were not attending teh school. The ratio of male and female who were going to school was 0.94 while the ratio for those who were not attending the school was 0.62.The CBS census also states that 19 males and 23 females did not state whether they were attending school or not.

According to Nepal Government records as of 2017, there were total 5,674 in Mahalaxmi Municipality with 2,720 (47.94%) of males and 2,954 (52.06%) females. There were total 57 schools. In average, 100 students were studying in each school.

Population by Language Spoken
Mostly spoken language in Mahalaxmi is Nepali, which is spoken by 18,544 people. The Mahalaxmi has people who speak other languages, such as Magar, Yakkha, Tamang, Limbu, Newar, Rai, Maithili, Bhujel, Hindi, Bantawa, Bhojpuri, etc.

There were as little as Badi caste with population of as little as 16 in total. People of several other castes who live in Mahalaxmi are Magar, Newar, Brahmin - Hill, Yakkha, Kami, Gurung, Tamang, Damai/Dholi, Limbu, Sarki, Gharti/Bhujel, Rai, Sanyasi/Dashnami, Majhi, Thakuri, Teli, Sherpa, Tharu, Badi, etc. Only the population of castes with above 1,000 population are illustrated in the table.

Household Foundation
Out of total 5482 households in Mahalaxmi Municipality, there were 5,072 houses that were founded on mud bonded while 32 houses were cement bonded. Same as, 2 households were reported of being founded on RCC piller, 312houses were founded on wood.
With respect to wall of the houses, 4,934 houses were mud bonded, 41 houses were cement bonded, 51 houses were wood planks bonded, 418 houses were bamboo bonded and 0 houses had unbaked bricks on their outer walls.Rest of the houses were reported of having other types of outer wall, while some of them reported nothing of having the outer wall bonding.
There were several types of house roofs reported. Total 3,391 houses were reported of having thatch roofs while 1,969 houses had galvanized roofs. Similarly, 36 houses had roof of tile, 5 houses had RCC roofs, 10 houses had roof of woods while 0 houses were reported having roof of mud. As per 2011 CBS census, some of the houses had other types of roofs while some didn't report about the roof structure.
With respect to the toilets, 1,168 out of 5,482 houses didn't report of having a private toilet for their households. Nevertheless, 1,257 houses were reported of having flush toilet while 3,045 houses reported having ordinary toilets.

With reference to source of fuel, 5,361 households reported their source of fuel as firewood while 8 households had kerosene as their fuel source. The LP gas was used by 83 households as a source of fuel. Moreover, other sources of fuel were cow dung (2), bio-gas (9), fuel electricity (3), etc.
Same as, total 4,461 households had reported of having electricity as the source of their household's lighting. The households still using kerosene as source of light were 744, while 190 households used solar energy as source of lights. Total 0 households also reported of using bio-gas as a source of light. The ratio of use of electricity as compared to other source of light was 0.81.
With reference to source of fuel, 5,361 households reported their source of fuel as firewood while 8 households had kerosene as their fuel source. The LP gas was used by 83 households as a source of fuel. Moreover, other sources of fuel were cow dung (2), bio-gas (9), fuel electricity (3), etc.
Same as, total 4,461 households had reported of having electricity as the source of their household's lighting. Facilities
out of 5,482 households in Mahalaxmi Municipality, 803 houses reported of having no any facility in their household while 4,625 households reported of using at least one facility. Economic Census
According to 2018 Economic Census, there are total 748 establishments in Mahalaxmi Municipality that are involved in various economic activities. In those establishments, total 1,561 persons are engaged for the economic activities, as a self-employed or an employee, with total male engagement of 923 and female engagement of 638 persons.In every business, there were an average of 2.09 people engaged with average males are 1.23 and females are 0.85. The ratio of male to female engagement in the establishments are 1.45, which means as many as 1.45 males are enagement in the economic activities per female.
Similarly, the engagement of males were 59.13 percent while the females are 40.87 percent.
