In 2017 election of Madhyabindu Municipality (Nawalparasi_E district), candidate Chandra Bahadur Rana of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 10,997 (46.13%) votes out of total votes of 23,838 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Bhimlal Adhikari of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 10,064 (28.89%) of votes. The rest of 9 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 2,777 (5.82) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Om Kumari Mahato of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 10,835 (45.73%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Jogmaya Mahato of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 10,033 (29.06%) of votes and came in second position. Other 5 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 2,824 (5.96) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 294 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 179 (60.88%) males and 115 (39.12%) females. Moreover, there were total 71 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 15 wards. Same as, total 110 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 51 females and 44 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
