In 2017 election of Letang Municipality (Morang district), candidate Shankar Rai of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 6,961 (47.56%) votes out of total votes of 14,636 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Bhupendra Kumar Lawati of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 6,656 (30.82%) of votes. The rest of 3 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 1,019 (3.48) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Krishna Kumari Pokhrel of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 6,809 (46.80%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Subhadra Devi Bhattarai of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 5,740 (26.87%) of votes and came in second position. Other 3 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 2,001 (6.88) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 170 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 105 (61.76%) males and 65 (38.24%) females. Moreover, there were total 35 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 9 wards. Same as, total 67 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 31 females and 27 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
