In 2017 election of Lekbeshi Municipality (Surkhet district), candidate Gagan Singh Sunuwar of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 5,753 (46.32%) votes out of total votes of 12,419 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Umesh Kumar Paudel of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 4,399 (24.21%) of votes. The rest of 3 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 2,267 (9.13) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Shanti Kumari Chantyel of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 5,740 (46.51%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Lilmati B.k of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,438 (24.55%) of votes and came in second position. Other 2 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 2,163 (8.76) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 183 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 110 (60.11%) males and 73 (39.89%) females. Moreover, there were total 37 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 10 wards. Same as, total 70 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 35 females and 32 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
