In 2017 election of Lekam Rural Municipality (Darchula district), candidate Parmananda Joshi of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 2,235 (40.53%) votes out of total votes of 5,515 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Uttam Nath of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 2,135 (27.55%) of votes. The rest of 3 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 1,145 (10.38) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Madhavi Joshi of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 2,230 (41.93%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Janaki Ojha of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 2,150 (28.48%) of votes and came in second position. Other 3 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 938 (8.82) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 130 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 77 (59.23%) males and 53 (40.77%) females. Moreover, there were total 27 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 6 wards. Same as, total 46 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 25 females and 22 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
