In 2017 election of Laligurans Municipality (Terhathum district), candidate Arjun Mabohang of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 3,851 (51.12%) votes out of total votes of 7,533 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Kamal Bahadur Khadka of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 2,826 (24.82%) of votes. The rest of 3 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 856 (5.68) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Tila Pokhrel of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 3,200 (42.78%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Jamuna Magar Karki of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,077 (28.81%) of votes and came in second position. Other 2 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 1,204 (8.05) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 146 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 90 (61.64%) males and 56 (38.36%) females. Moreover, there were total 30 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 9 wards. Same as, total 55 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 28 females and 24 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
