In 2017 election of Lalbandi Municipality (Sarlahi district), candidate Man Bahadur Khadka of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 8,949 (42.67%) votes out of total votes of 20,971 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Indra Bahadur Yonjan of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) who secured 5,639 (18.85%) of votes. The rest of 9 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 6,383 (15.22) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Shanti Kumari Lama of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 7,934 (38.67%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Shanta Upadhyay of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 5,561 (19.55%) of votes and came in second position. Other 6 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 7,021 (17.11) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 341 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 193 (56.60%) males and 148 (43.40%) females. Moreover, there were total 72 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 17 wards. Same as, total 124 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 63 females and 63 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
