In 2017 election of Lahan Municipality (Siraha district), candidate Muni Sahu Sudi of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 11,307 (33.08%) votes out of total votes of 34,181 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Achmit Lal Chaudhary of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 9,138 (20.09%) of votes. The rest of 13 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 13,736 (20.09) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Sariyar Kumari Chaudhary of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 11,168 (32.76%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Punam Chaudhary of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 9,906 (21.89%) of votes and came in second position. Other 9 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 13,013 (19.09) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 716 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 416 (58.10%) males and 300 (41.90%) females. Moreover, there were total 154 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 24 wards. Same as, total 270 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 133 females and 133 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
