In 2017 election of Kshireshwornath Municipality (Dhanusa district), candidate Yogendra Pajiyar of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 5,899 (42.84%) votes out of total votes of 13,769 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Sukh Dev Yadav of Snghiy Samajbadi Form Nepal (SanSFN) who secured 3,305 (16.80%) of votes. The rest of 12 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 4,565 (16.58) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Rachana Shrestha of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 5,701 (46.76%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Yasodha Kumari of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,345 (18.69%) of votes and came in second position. Other 5 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 3,146 (12.90) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 254 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 157 (61.81%) males and 97 (38.19%) females. Moreover, there were total 60 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 10 wards. Same as, total 88 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 44 females and 41 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
