In 2017 election of Krishnapur Municipality (Kanchanpur district), candidate Karna Bahadur Hamal of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 6,706 (34.61%) votes out of total votes of 19,376 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Hem Raj Ojha of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 5,760 (22.08%) of votes. The rest of 5 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 6,910 (17.83) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Ramita Kumari Rana of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 7,018 (35.61%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Bhuwaneshwari Joshi of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 5,928 (22.18%) of votes and came in second position. Other 4 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 6,763 (17.16) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 234 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 136 (58.12%) males and 98 (41.88%) females. Moreover, there were total 49 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 9 wards. Same as, total 88 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 44 females and 40 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
