In 2017 election of Koshi Rural Municipality (Sunsari district), candidate Aiyub Ansari of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,074 (30.97%) votes out of total votes of 13,155 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Ajay Kumar Kusiyait of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 2,723 (15.80%) of votes. The rest of 11 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 6,358 (24.17) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Anita Devi Yadav of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 3,412 (30.11%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Parbati Devi Uranv of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 2,732 (18.53%) of votes and came in second position. Other 7 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 5,186 (22.89) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 266 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 167 (62.78%) males and 99 (37.22%) females. Moreover, there were total 60 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 8 wards. Same as, total 95 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 46 females and 43 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
