In 2017 election of Khotehang Rural Municipality (Khotang district), candidate Pradeep Rai of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,127 (45.31%) votes out of total votes of 6,902 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Rajan Prasad Dhakal of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) who secured 2,682 (26.74%) of votes. The rest of 3 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 1,093 (7.92) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Kabita Rai of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,020 (44.71%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Sushil Bantawa Rai of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 2,309 (23.62%) of votes and came in second position. Other 3 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 1,425 (10.55) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 158 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 97 (61.39%) males and 61 (38.61%) females. Moreover, there were total 32 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 9 wards. Same as, total 59 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 31 females and 26 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
