In 2017 election of Kharpunath Rural Municipality (Humla district), candidate Karna Bahadur Rawal of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 1,110 (51.32%) votes out of total votes of 2,163 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Ganesh Rawal of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) who secured 533 (16.28%) of votes. The rest of 2 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 520 (12.02) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Sindhu Hamal of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 1,018 (48.16%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Rupa Shahi of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 959 (30.62%) of votes and came in second position. Other 3 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 137 (3.24) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 69 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 42 (60.87%) males and 27 (39.13%) females. Moreover, there were total 13 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 5 wards. Same as, total 26 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 10 females and 11 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
