In 2017 election of Khanikhola Rural Municipality (Kavrepalanchok district), candidate Krishna Bahadur Khulal of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 2,023 (37.58%) votes out of total votes of 5,383 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Indra Bahadur Thing of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) who secured 1,644 (22.20%) of votes. The rest of 5 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 1,716 (15.94) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Rukmani Gurung of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 2,130 (39.83%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Tara Devi Acharya of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 1,596 (21.34%) of votes and came in second position. Other 2 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 1,622 (15.16) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 132 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 88 (66.67%) males and 44 (33.33%) females. Moreover, there were total 32 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 7 wards. Same as, total 50 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 24 females and 15 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
