In 2017 election of Khairahani Municipality (Chitwan district), candidate Lal Mani Chaudhary of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 10,717 (43.32%) votes out of total votes of 24,737 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Rajendra Prasad Chaudhary of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 9,733 (27.45%) of votes. The rest of 9 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 4,287 (8.67) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Sunita Kharel of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 10,451 (42.72%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Sushila Devi Upreti of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 9,888 (28.32%) of votes and came in second position. Other 7 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 4,126 (8.43) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 296 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 178 (60.14%) males and 118 (39.86%) females. Moreover, there were total 66 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 13 wards. Same as, total 109 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 52 females and 49 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
