In 2017 election of Kawilasi Municipality (Sarlahi district), candidate Kaushal Kishor Yadav of Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RasJPN) secured 3,395 (24.36%) votes out of total votes of 13,934 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Bramha Dev Raya of Snghiy Samajbadi Form Nepal (SanSFN) who secured 3,355 (19.36%) of votes. The rest of 9 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 7,184 (25.78) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Radha Devi of Snghiy Samajbadi Form Nepal (SanSFN) secured 3,657 (26.97%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Raj Kumari Devi of Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RasJPN) secured 2,986 (17.34%) of votes and came in second position. Other 6 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 6,919 (25.51) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 265 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 165 (62.26%) males and 100 (37.74%) females. Moreover, there were total 59 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 10 wards. Same as, total 96 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 45 females and 46 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
