In 2017 election of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (Kathmandu district), candidate Bidhya Sundar Shakya of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 64,913 (38.80%) votes out of total votes of 167,286 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Raju Raj Joshi of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 45,269 (19.50%) of votes. The rest of 26 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 57,104 (17.07) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Hariprabha Khadgi of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 58,952 (48.82%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Rajaram Shrestha of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) secured 34,854 (19.39%) of votes and came in second position. Other 11 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 26,957 (11.16) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 860 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 553 (64.30%) males and 307 (35.70%) females. Moreover, there were total 217 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 32 wards. Same as, total 351 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 165 females and 86 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
