In 2017 election of Katahari Rural Municipality (Morang district), candidate Ram Kumar Kamat of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,506 (32.37%) votes out of total votes of 13,920 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Mukti Narayan Rajbanshi of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 3,781 (20.52%) of votes. The rest of 6 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 5,633 (20.23) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Manjita Kumari Sardar of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,494 (35.22%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Suman Kumari Sardar of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,755 (21.76%) of votes and came in second position. Other 4 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 4,510 (17.67) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 213 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 123 (57.75%) males and 90 (42.25%) females. Moreover, there were total 44 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 7 wards. Same as, total 78 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 38 females and 39 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
