In 2017 election of Karaiyamai Rural Municipality (Bara district), candidate Bhuneshwor Dhami of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 3,329 (33.63%) votes out of total votes of 9,899 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Shambhu Prasad Yadav of Snghiy Samajbadi Form Nepal (SanSFN) who secured 3,159 (23.88%) of votes. The rest of 4 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 3,411 (17.23) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Chitrarekha Kumari Chaudhary of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 3,372 (35.06%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Lila Devi Pandit of Snghiy Samajbadi Form Nepal (SanSFN) secured 2,801 (21.56%) of votes and came in second position. Other 3 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 3,444 (17.91) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 221 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 119 (53.85%) males and 102 (46.15%) females. Moreover, there were total 45 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 8 wards. Same as, total 81 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 43 females and 41 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
