In 2017 election of Kanepokhari Rural Municipality (Morang district), candidate Tara Bahadur Kafle of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 6,588 (41.31%) votes out of total votes of 15,947 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Surya Bahadur Dhimal of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) who secured 4,667 (20.71%) of votes. The rest of 5 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 4,692 (14.71) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Rajmati Ingnam of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 7,029 (44.82%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Tankeshwori Yakha of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,627 (20.37%) of votes and came in second position. Other 3 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 4,025 (12.83) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 153 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 95 (62.09%) males and 58 (37.91%) females. Moreover, there were total 31 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 7 wards. Same as, total 58 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 27 females and 25 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
