In 2017 election of Kamalbazar Municipality (Achham district), candidate Om Prakash Bista of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 3,587 (48.33%) votes out of total votes of 7,422 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Dipak Prasad Adhikari of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 3,277 (29.77%) of votes. The rest of 3 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 558 (3.76) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Bhumi Sharan Dhakal (bajgain) of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 3,672 (49.15%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Mana Devi Adhikari of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,237 (29.05%) of votes and came in second position. Other 2 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 562 (3.76) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 169 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 103 (60.95%) males and 66 (39.05%) females. Moreover, there were total 33 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 10 wards. Same as, total 65 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 33 females and 29 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
