In 2017 election of Kamal Rural Municipality (Jhapa district), candidate Menuka Kafle of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 8,275 (43.45%) votes out of total votes of 19,043 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Hukum Singh Rai of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 8,275 (30.29%) of votes. The rest of 6 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 2,493 (6.55) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Benu Prasad Shivakoti of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 9,418 (50.63%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Dipa Bhandari (gautam) of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,992 (17.82%) of votes and came in second position. Other 4 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 4,190 (11.26) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 182 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 110 (60.44%) males and 72 (39.56%) females. Moreover, there were total 36 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 7 wards. Same as, total 68 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 34 females and 30 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
