In 2017 election of Kalika Municipality (Chitwan district), candidate Khum Narayan Shrestha of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 7,492 (42.83%) votes out of total votes of 17,492 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Kamal Prasad Acharya of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 7,164 (28.67%) of votes. The rest of 7 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 2,836 (8.11) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Kamala Bhattarai of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 7,535 (43.34%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Niruja Shrestha of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 6,750 (27.08%) of votes and came in second position. Other 6 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 3,102 (8.92) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 247 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 148 (59.92%) males and 99 (40.08%) females. Moreover, there were total 60 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 11 wards. Same as, total 88 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 46 females and 36 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
