In 2017 election of Kaligandaki Rural Municipality (Gulmi district), candidate Bed Bahadur Thapa of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,298 (52.99%) votes out of total votes of 8,111 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Tikaram Dhakal of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 3,770 (30.38%) of votes. The rest of 3 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 43 (0.27) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Tara Thapa of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,856 (52.81%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Om Prasad Neupane of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 3,411 (30.57%) of votes and came in second position. Other 1 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 35 (0.24) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 88 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 54 (61.36%) males and 34 (38.64%) females. Moreover, there were total 17 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 7 wards. Same as, total 31 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 15 females and 17 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
