In 2017 election of Kailari Rural Municipality (Kailali district), candidate Laju Ram Chaudhary of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 6,204 (29.56%) votes out of total votes of 20,989 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Raj Samajh Chaudhary of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 5,887 (21.65%) of votes. The rest of 4 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 8,898 (21.20) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Laxmi Satgaiwa Tharu of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 6,064 (29.49%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Anita Chaudhary of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 5,407 (20.30%) of votes and came in second position. Other 4 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 9,095 (22.11) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 273 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 164 (60.07%) males and 109 (39.93%) females. Moreover, there were total 59 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 9 wards. Same as, total 112 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 53 females and 37 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
