In 2017 election of Janakpur Sub-Metropolitan City (Dhanusa district), candidate Lal Kishor Shah of Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RasJPN) secured 21,903 (47.83%) votes out of total votes of 45,797 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Manoj Kumar Shah Sudi of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 11,164 (16.49%) of votes. The rest of 16 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 12,730 (13.90) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Rita Kumari Mishra of Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RasJPN) secured 17,147 (38.04%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Nilam Devi Karna of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 10,605 (17.04%) of votes and came in second position. Other 12 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 17,321 (19.21) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 814 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 533 (65.48%) males and 281 (34.52%) females. Moreover, there were total 224 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 25 wards. Same as, total 300 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 141 females and 117 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
