In 2017 election of Jaleshwor Municipality (Mahottari district), candidate Ram Shankar Mishra of Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RasJPN) secured 5,180 (31.14%) votes out of total votes of 16,634 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Suresh Shah Sonar of Nepal Loktantrik Form (NepLF) who secured 3,362 (15.41%) of votes. The rest of 13 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 8,092 (24.32) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Munchun Devi of Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RasJPN) secured 4,566 (29.28%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Anita Devi Sharma of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 2,717 (13.48%) of votes and came in second position. Other 9 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 8,310 (26.65) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 446 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 287 (64.35%) males and 159 (35.65%) females. Moreover, there were total 112 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 12 wards. Same as, total 161 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 74 females and 73 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
