In 2017 election of Ishworpur Municipality (Sarlahi district), candidate Manoj Kumar Devkota of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 6,560 (32.22%) votes out of total votes of 20,357 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Jaya Prakash Chaudhary of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) who secured 4,835 (17.96%) of votes. The rest of 9 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 8,962 (22.01) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Ekawati Devi Chaudhary of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 6,678 (33.75%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Adi Maya Syanba of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 4,505 (17.02%) of votes and came in second position. Other 5 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 8,602 (21.74) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 370 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 219 (59.19%) males and 151 (40.81%) females. Moreover, there were total 82 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 15 wards. Same as, total 132 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 70 females and 68 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
