In 2017 election of Ishnath Municipality (Rautahat district), candidate Santosh Kumar Mehata of Nepal Loktantrik Form (NepLF) secured 5,785 (42.84%) votes out of total votes of 13,503 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Kaushalya Devi of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 5,237 (27.15%) of votes. The rest of 9 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 2,481 (9.19) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Husne Ara of Nepal Loktantrik Form (NepLF) secured 5,236 (39.56%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Shekh Kalam Husain of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,432 (23.99%) of votes and came in second position. Other 5 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 3,568 (13.48) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 223 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 139 (62.33%) males and 84 (37.67%) females. Moreover, there were total 49 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 9 wards. Same as, total 81 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 38 females and 37 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
