In 2017 election of Ishma Rural Municipality (Gulmi district), candidate Laxman Bahadur Bista of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 5,055 (55.25%) votes out of total votes of 9,149 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Chandra Bahadur Mahat of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 4,000 (28.16%) of votes. The rest of 3 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 94 (0.51) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Bimala Khatri of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 4,913 (53.02%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Gita Upadhyay (ghimire) of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 3,718 (26.22%) of votes and came in second position. Other 3 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 635 (3.43) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 97 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 59 (60.82%) males and 38 (39.18%) females. Moreover, there were total 16 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 6 wards. Same as, total 38 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 18 females and 15 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
