In 2017 election of Hupsekot Rural Municipality (Nawalparasi_E district), candidate Laxmi Devi Pandey of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,592 (47.62%) votes out of total votes of 9,642 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Mek Bahadur Pulami Magar of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 4,358 (30.62%) of votes. The rest of 3 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 692 (3.59) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Swotantra Kopila Malla of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 4,468 (46.23%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Om Bahadur Gharti of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,413 (31.23%) of votes and came in second position. Other 3 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 783 (4.05) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 112 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 69 (61.61%) males and 43 (38.39%) females. Moreover, there were total 23 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 6 wards. Same as, total 40 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 20 females and 19 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
