In 2017 election of Hilihang Rural Municipality (Panchthar district), candidate Bhuwani Prasad Lingden of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 4,169 (49.18%) votes out of total votes of 8,477 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Samar Bahadur Adhikari of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 3,400 (26.89%) of votes. The rest of 5 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 908 (5.36) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Sumitra Upreti Sedain of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 4,255 (50.85%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Tara Kumari Yonghang of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 3,219 (25.50%) of votes and came in second position. Other 3 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 893 (5.34) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 135 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 84 (62.22%) males and 51 (37.78%) females. Moreover, there were total 29 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 7 wards. Same as, total 49 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 24 females and 21 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
