In 2017 election of Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City (Makwanpur district), candidate Hari Bahadur Mahat of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 23,124 (42.43%) votes out of total votes of 54,498 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Ananda Ram Parajuli of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 22,509 (29.00%) of votes. The rest of 13 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 8,865 (8.13) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Mina Kumari Lama of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 23,437 (46.79%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Balram Lama of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 17,011 (23.14%) of votes and came in second position. Other 10 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 9,637 (9.62) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 488 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 296 (60.66%) males and 192 (39.34%) females. Moreover, there were total 107 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 19 wards. Same as, total 184 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 88 females and 82 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
