In 2017 election of Helambu Rural Municipality (Sindhupalchok district), candidate Nima Gyajen Sherpa of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,945 (54.35%) votes out of total votes of 9,098 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Hasta Bahadur Pandit (chhetri) of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 3,213 (22.88%) of votes. The rest of 4 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 940 (5.17) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Kopila Pandit of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,502 (50.46%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Nima Jangmu Lama of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,286 (24.48%) of votes and came in second position. Other 4 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 1,134 (6.36) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 147 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 91 (61.90%) males and 56 (38.10%) females. Moreover, there were total 28 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 7 wards. Same as, total 57 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 26 females and 24 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
