In 2017 election of Hatuwagadhi Rural Municipality (Bhojpur district), candidate Prem Kumar Rai of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,496 (51.36%) votes out of total votes of 6,807 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Madan Bahadur Khulal of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 3,260 (31.64%) of votes. The rest of 1 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 51 (0.37) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Chandrama Rai of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,281 (56.01%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Sunita Rai of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 2,535 (27.74%) of votes and came in second position. Other 1 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 42 (0.36) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 133 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 80 (60.15%) males and 53 (39.85%) females. Moreover, there were total 27 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 9 wards. Same as, total 52 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 27 females and 21 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
