In 2017 election of Haripur Municipality (Sarlahi district), candidate Jamirudin Mansur of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,853 (30.34%) votes out of total votes of 12,700 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Udaya Narayan Chaudhary of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 3,575 (21.60%) of votes. The rest of 4 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 5,272 (20.76) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Renuka Devi Kafle of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,858 (31.25%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Panbati Devi of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 3,325 (20.52%) of votes and came in second position. Other 4 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 5,164 (20.91) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 211 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 125 (59.24%) males and 86 (40.76%) females. Moreover, there were total 45 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 9 wards. Same as, total 79 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 39 females and 36 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
