In 2017 election of Gurans Rural Municipality (Dailekh district), candidate Khemraj Oli of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,164 (48.34%) votes out of total votes of 8,614 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Prem Bahadur Khadka of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 3,423 (26.79%) of votes. The rest of 3 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 1,027 (5.96) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Deepa Kumari B.c of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,037 (46.81%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Prabha Devi Gurung of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,569 (28.19%) of votes and came in second position. Other 3 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 1,019 (5.91) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 154 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 92 (59.74%) males and 62 (40.26%) females. Moreover, there were total 32 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 8 wards. Same as, total 57 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 28 females and 27 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
