In 2017 election of Gulmi Darbar Rural Municipality (Gulmi district), candidate Ashok Kumar Thapa of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 5,575 (52.09%) votes out of total votes of 10,702 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Krishna Bahadur Bhusal of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 4,750 (29.18%) of votes. The rest of 3 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 377 (1.76) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Mina Bhandari of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 5,608 (52.50%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Sushila Pun of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 4,718 (28.96%) of votes and came in second position. Other 2 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 356 (1.67) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 109 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 64 (58.72%) males and 45 (41.28%) females. Moreover, there were total 22 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 7 wards. Same as, total 40 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 20 females and 18 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
