In 2017 election of Gorkha Municipality (Gorkha district), candidate Rajan Raj Panta of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 6,560 (35.73%) votes out of total votes of 18,361 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Krishna Bahadur Rana of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) who secured 5,026 (20.17%) of votes. The rest of 4 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 6,775 (18.45) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Bina Kumari Shrestha of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 6,260 (34.95%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Samjhana Devkota of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 4,705 (19.47%) of votes and came in second position. Other 5 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 6,945 (19.39) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 329 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 195 (59.27%) males and 134 (40.73%) females. Moreover, there were total 65 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 14 wards. Same as, total 128 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 63 females and 60 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
