In 2017 election of Golbazar Municipality (Siraha district), candidate Dev Nath Shah of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 6,443 (33.27%) votes out of total votes of 19,365 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Shyam Kumar Shrestha of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 5,089 (19.72%) of votes. The rest of 24 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 7,833 (20.22) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Reshma Kumari Thapa of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 6,349 (32.90%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Sunita Devi Singh of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 4,925 (19.20%) of votes and came in second position. Other 8 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 8,026 (20.79) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 389 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 244 (62.72%) males and 145 (37.28%) females. Moreover, there were total 95 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 13 wards. Same as, total 130 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 63 females and 65 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
