In 2017 election of Godawari Municipality (Lalitpur district), candidate Gajendra Maharjan of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 13,820 (39.34%) votes out of total votes of 35,133 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Shyam Krishna Silwal of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 11,087 (22.65%) of votes. The rest of 16 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 10,226 (14.55) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Muna Adhikari of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 12,779 (37.21%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Tara Devi Ghimire (sanjel) of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 11,396 (24.18%) of votes and came in second position. Other 5 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 10,171 (14.81) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 332 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 212 (63.86%) males and 120 (36.14%) females. Moreover, there were total 81 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 14 wards. Same as, total 118 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 58 females and 50 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
