In 2017 election of Ghorahi Sub-Metropolitan City (Dang district), candidate Narulal Chaudhary of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 22,030 (40.81%) votes out of total votes of 53,988 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Bhup Bahadur Dangi Chhetri of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 17,484 (23.00%) of votes. The rest of 11 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 14,474 (13.40) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Sita Sigdel Neupane of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 20,792 (38.90%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Pushpa Shrestha of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 17,603 (23.71%) of votes and came in second position. Other 10 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 15,050 (14.08) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 444 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 273 (61.49%) males and 171 (38.51%) females. Moreover, there were total 98 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 19 wards. Same as, total 167 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 83 females and 71 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
