In 2017 election of Gharapjhong Rural Municipality (Mustang district), candidate Aas Bahadur Thakali of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 454 (39.07%) votes out of total votes of 1,162 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Bijaya Hirachan of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 417 (25.80%) of votes. The rest of 2 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 291 (12.52) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Sarmila Gurung of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 707 (64.74%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Pushpa Bhattachan (sherchan) of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 215 (11.95%) of votes and came in second position. Other 1 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 170 (7.78) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 41 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 25 (60.98%) males and 16 (39.02%) females. Moreover, there were total 6 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 5 wards. Same as, total 15 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 6 females and 7 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
