In 2017 election of Geruwa Rural Municipality (Bardiya district), candidate Jaman Singh K.c of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 6,003 (41.42%) votes out of total votes of 14,494 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Bishwo Bahadur Tharu of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) who secured 5,158 (25.16%) of votes. The rest of 4 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 3,333 (11.50) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Hima Kumari Tharuni of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 5,553 (37.81%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Lila Chaudhary of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 5,312 (26.25%) of votes and came in second position. Other 3 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 3,822 (13.01) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 133 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 79 (59.40%) males and 54 (40.60%) females. Moreover, there were total 29 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 6 wards. Same as, total 47 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 24 females and 22 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
